Meet IMDEA
1.Organization Overview
IMDEA Networks Institute is an independent research institute based in Madrid (Spain) dedicated to excellence in computer networks and networked systems. Its international team conducts cutting-edge research across data networking, distributed systems, privacy and data governance, network measurements, and applied AI/ML—translating fundamental advances into real-world impact. The institute is widely recognized in the networks community for scientific excellence and leadership, including top-tier output at venues such as IEEE INFOCOM, and hosts research groups like the Data Transparency Group (DTG) that specialize in privacy, accountability, and algorithmic auditing—expertise that directly aligns with trustworthy AI and regulatory compliance.
IMDEA’s values center on rigor, openness, and collaboration. The institute promotes interdisciplinary work with academia, industry, public authorities, and civil society, and is committed to responsible innovation, open science, and skills development for students, PhDs, and postdocs.
2. Role in the GenAI4ED Project
IMDEA Networks Institute contributes scientific and technical leadership on trustworthy-by-design compliance for the GenAI4ED platform and featured GenAI tools. Specifically, IMDEA will develop novel LLM-based techniques to audit compliance with GDPR, the Data Governance Act/Data Act, and domain-specific regulations in education—covering algorithmic design, data analysis, and reporting. IMDEA will collaborate with TURN-KEY.AI to implement these as a standalone/integrated component of the platform.
3. Contributions and Achievements
IMDEA brings a privacy-first, regulation-aware innovation track to GenAI4ED. Building on DTG’s expertise in transparency and data protection, IMDEA will check adherence to privacy/security policies and educational standards, and surface actionable evidence and explanations for developers, educators, and governance bodies. Within WP4, IMDEA’s achievements will include: (a) contributing to the platform’s security architecture and automatic compliance checking based on LLMs, strengthening end-to-end data protection; (b) co-engineering integration workflows and orchestration for GenAI tools; and (c) delivering validated components for the pre-pilot and pilot releases. These outcomes reinforce GenAI4ED’s goal of operationalizing trustworthy AI in secondary education at scale.
